The Kingfisher.
I’ve always thought Kingfishers were such extraordinary birds. Their bright blue-green feathers and warm orange chest make them almost look unreal. Although they can be found here in the Netherlands, I’ve never been lucky enough to see one in the wild. I would absolutely love to change that.
For this linoprint, I wanted to capture that striking colour combination. The vivid orange of the sky echoes the warm orange of the Kingfisher, while the deep blue-green of the bird flows into the water. Soft sage green in the leaves and riverbank adds a quieter, natural tone and balances the brighter colours. The white areas are left as the colour of the paper itself.
