Bold Awakened

This version of the trees print was never planned… It’s made of the same blocks (multblock print) as the Winter Awakened print. While testing the alignment and the amount of snow on the leaves for the Winter Awakened print, I used a color I usually avoid because of the local soccer association: yellow. In this case it’s a kind of mustard yellow. My black inkt was almost gone, so I used raw umber instead.

Sometimes the boldest combinations happen by accident. The mustard sky and deep umber trees turned into something powerful, warm, and unexpectedly alive. For the soccer fans in Nijmegen: don’t worry: it’s not really yellow-yellow 😉

“Bold awakened” is the same familiar path to our soccer stadium, reimagined.

Printing Method
Printed using the multiblock technique. The multiblock technique uses separate linoleum blocks for each color. Each block is carefully carved and hand-printed in sequence, allowing precise registration and vibrant layered effects.

Each design is transferred by hand onto the linoleum block and carved using Pfeil gouges. Every print is hand-printed using a glass baren and sometimes a press. Due to the handmade process, colors and details may vary slightly, and the print and the paper may have imperfections, including slight color misalignment in multicolor prints. They are part of the character of the work.

Each print is signed and numbered on the front.
